Community Bible Church Family,

The COVID-19 situation has brought unusual circumstances to many aspects of life. Health care officials have released a number of individual and public health guidelines regarding this issue. Further, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers has issued an executive directive restricting certain public activities. As each of you considers how this will impact you and what course you will take, I encourage you to consider all these things under the frame of your walking in faith, obedience, and trust in your Savior Jesus Christ.

This letter will be long. This is a serious issue. There are many things I would encourage you to consider. Most immediately, we are informing you that Community Bible Church will continue to meet for worship, encouragement, and fellowship. However, it will not be situation normal and usual.

Governor Evers' Emergency Order #5 restricts all public gathering of 10 or more people. Under this order no groups of over 9 people can gather in a single room. I believe that we can take steps to protect our family and neighbors and honor the governor (Titus 3:1, 1 Pet 2:13-17) and continue to honor God's calling on us to include “not forsaking our own assembling together “ (Heb 10:25).

First, do not let your decisions be controlled by fear. This leads to bondage. Remember what Jesus said to His disciples in the storm tossed boat-”But He said to them, “It is I do not be afraid.” (John 6:20). Believers are never abandoned. Jesus is always with them-be not afraid.

In accordance with health guidelines and with Governor Evers' order, our Sunday worship will be modified. We will be limited to nine people in the sanctuary. An additional nine people can gather in the social hall. We will send audio into the social hall via bluetooth speaker and we will attempt to send video in also. If more than 18 people arrive for worship, we will form additional groups that can gather together at peoples' homes. Glenn, and Josh, and I will continue to watch as this situation develops. We are also looking at other possibilities to include interactive video feeds and others. We will keep you all posted.

Wednesday Bible study will be meeting via internet and phone. This is an interactive, participatory meeting. We had our first meeting this Wednesday and it was very good. Please contact Josh Scott for information to join us.

I want to emphasize that we intend to honor God in all this and to function as an active congregation with a joint identity in Christ, living that truth out in life as well as in word. I want to state clearly that I do not want anyone to feel obligated to participate in physically gathering at the church. I want to make clear that this is about the church family continuing to function as a family of teaching, encouraging, worshipping, and witnessing. There are many ways to gather together, I will address this again later. Remember Jesus said-“For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” (Matt 18:20). It is my desire that everyone knows that this church body is real. That everyone knows that their brothers and sisters are with them and will encourage, help, come along side and worship God in all things with them in a very real way.

Everyone of us has unique circumstances. There are factors of age, mobility, health, and many others. I encourage each of you to consider your own (and your family's) situation. Consider also your impact on others that you might affect. Then make your decision in faith. Do not be bound or led by fear. Earnestly and prayerfully ask God to reveal to you the course He would have you take, then take it. Again, I simply ask that in this you walk in faith not fear.

While we are in the world, but not of the world, I also remind you that the world is watching us. We bear the name Christian and the world is watching how we represent Him even in this. Are we displaying care and compassion for others? Are we displaying disrespect for authority or respect? Are we displaying faith or fear? Many in the world are watching us with or for hope. Some are watching us waiting for something to charge against us, and really to charge against our Savior.

Please intentionally consider how you can maintain fellowship and coming together with your brothers and sisters in this body. Where two or more......Watching TV, listening to the radio, watching a video can be instructive. It is not fellowship and it is not coming together. A small gathering in a home of 3 or 4 people can be gathering together. You can gather and sing, read, and worship in your homes. You can gather together and have communion together. Read and consider 1 Cor 11 and break bread together in remembrance of Him.

And please consider ways to display to the world the reality of your faith and the faithfulness of your Savior. In times of fear and panic, display peace and trust in Christ. Call on neighbors (in person, phone, etc) and ask if there is anything you can do for them to help. Be a light to the world.

This church body is real and alive. We will continue to live as a body and worship God. If you have any need, please contact us and let us know. If you are unable to get together for fellowship in the usual ways, let us know. We will come to you or find some other way. If anyone wants or needs a visit from the pastor, I will come to you. If you want to gather at your house for communion and worship, I, or someone, will come to you.

It is I do not be afraid. Our Savior is with us always. Prayerfully consider how God would have you walk in these coming days. And may He work powerfully in us and through us.

Blessings and peace,

Pastor Brad
